Spain Shocked at Home by Pukki Finns. Late Show Hondurans Level Mexico

Mexico surrendered two late goals and two late points in their second World Cup Hexagonal match.

Manchester United’s Chicharito Hernandez put El Tri 1-0 up in Honduras in the 28th minute at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula. He doubled their lead in the 54th but late drama was to come.

With 13 minutes left Honduras pulled one back through former Houston Dynamo player Carlos Costly. Seattle Sounders Mario Martinez provided the assist.

Three minutes later, New England Revolution’s Jerry Bengston equalised for Honduras, setting up a nervous final ten in front of 37,325 spectators.

No further scoring occurred, leaving Mexico’s campaign off to a ropey start with two draws. Honduras remain top of the table, being still the only side with a victory.

USA play Costa Rica later tonight in Colorado. Jamaica host Panama.

Across Europe, there is one result that will shock not just Europe but the world in today’s World Cup qualifiers.

Spain took the lead against Finland through Sergio Ramos in his 100th international after a goalless first half. However Schalke 04’s Teemu Pukki scored a shock equaliser in the 74th minute.

Mixu Paateleinen’s Finns held on for a famous result whcih leaves Spain trailing France by two points in Group 9 before the two giants meet in Paris next week. Finland are only the second team in seven years to leave Spain with a point.

France beat Georgia 3-1 in Paris.

Vancouver Whitecaps forward Kenny Miller hasn’t flown all the way from Vancouver to Glasgow for nothing after all.

A freak injury to Steven Fletcher in the 2nd minute led to him being replaced after the Sunderland striker landed awkwardly on his ankle.

Gordon Strachan making his competitive debut as Scotland coach had no option but to make his first substitution, introducing Kenny Miller.

Scotland led 1-0 at half time with Miller heading his first opportunity over the bar. Grant Hanley scored the goal.

In the space of three second half minutes though, Scotland suffered a red card, and conceded a penalty and two goals. Wales won 1-2.

Whitecaps Kenny Miller came off the bench in the 2nd minute in Glasgow.

Iceland won in Slovenia to keep Europe’s unlikeliest qualification campaign on a roll. Croatia beat Serbia in a tense local derby. Portugal needed a late equalizer to save a point in Israel. The two remain level on seven points from four games.

Previously unbeaten Czech Republic lost 0-3 at home to Denmark.

Japan beat Canada 2-1 in a friendly with a former Whitecap, Marcus Haber, netting. Also starting were another ex-Whitecap Randy Edwini-Bonsu and RSL’s Will Johnson in a match that took place in Doha.
