USA to Play Scotland

Fans in Florida will see plenty of these

NBC’s first ever USA game as part of their new TV deal will be against Scotland.

US Soccer has announced that in preparation for their May 30 game with Brazil, they will play Craig Levein’s Navy Blues on May 26th.

The match is scheduled for Jacksonville’s EverBank Field with a 5PM kick off (Pacific Time).

It will be shown live on the NBC Sports Network in the channel’s debut broadcast of a Men’s National Team game, as well as the Univision family of networks with Arlo White calling the game.

This will be the first time that the two sides have met on US soil for 14 years. Both sides were preparing for the 1998 World Cup when they recorded a 0-0 draw in Washington on 30 May 1998.

The next meeting at Hampden on 12 November 2005 also ended in a draw. Josh Wolff put the USA ahead with an early penalty, with Andy Webster levelling for Scotland.

Scotland National Coach, Craig Levein, said:

“Following the match against Slovenia in February, this provides another opportunity to get the group together ahead of the World Cup 2014 Qualifiers in September. We will have an extended period together in May, with a training camp in the USA prior to the match on the 26th, which is very important as we prepare for the qualifiers. We’re all looking forward to this match, which gives us a chance to test ourselves against a nation that is emerging as one of the top sides in world football.”

History of USA v Scotland from US Soccer

The U.S. has played Scotland six times in its history, holding a lifetime record of 1-3-2 in a series dating back to 1949. The teams last met on U.S. soil in the USA’s final preparation match before the 1998 FIFA World Cup, playing to a scoreless draw on May 30, 1998, in Washington, D.C.

The Tartan Army narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 2012 European Championship from a group that included defending FIFA World Cup champion Spain. Scotland’s strike force includes Kris Boyd, the all-time leading goalscorer in the Scottish Premier League who recently signed with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer.
