The Germanic flavour of the American national team became stronger today after former Austrian international Andres Herzog agreed to join Jurgen Klinsmann.
Herzog had been coaching Austria’s Under-21 team until Friday.
“Jurgen Klinsmann and I have been close friends for many years now. I face this new challenge with great confidence,” Herzog said in a statement released by  the Austrian federation’s statement.
The two men were colleagues at Bayern Munich in the 1990s and also retain the Californian connection.
Herzog appeared for the LA Galaxy 27 times in Major League Soccer in 2004.
He will start work at January’s training camp prior to the USA’s first matches of 2012, against Venezuela on January 21 in Arizona and Panama in Panama City on January 25.
