Stanley Holmes Joins Prost Amerika

Prost Amerika is proud to announce the latest new recruit to its panel of columnists, Stanley Holmes.

We are delighted to welcome him to join Jeremy St Louis, Ian Joy, Greg Nickels  and Seattle refereeing chief Roberto Alvarez on what we hope is the strongest and most varied team of columnists available bringing you the best in football writing.

Stanley Holmes brings more than 20 years of professional journalism experience to the coverage of the only growth sport in America — Major League Soccer.

Among his proudest soccer and journalism moments was writing the first ever soccer article to be published in Business Week in the magazine’s then 77-year history:

“Can Britain’s No. 1 Soccer Club Score in America? Hugely Profitable Manchester United wants to crack the U.S. market.”

Most recently he has been covering the Cascadia soccer scene for SportspressNW, chronicling the Sounders’ pursuit of an MLS Cup championship and the Timber’s marketing panache, to offering sophisticated analysis of the Whitecaps robust business model to why Manchester United’s debt hangover will ultimately imperil the world’s most popular sporting franchise.

For most of his journalism tenure, Stanley has covered a different kind of sport — the winners and losers of global business.

All the while he was harboring a secret desire to write about the sport he has played, coached and watched since childhood when the only soccer on TV could be found on Sunday mornings on PBS — “Toby Charles Soccer Made in Germany.”‘

Meanwhile, Stanley climbed the ranks of journalism, covering business for The Chicago Tribune, The Rocky Mountain News, The Seattle Times, The Los Angeles Times and Business Week Magazine, where he was named a 2004 finalist for National Magazine and Gerald Loeb awards. Stanley grew up in the Seattle area, graduated from Western Washington University with a bachelor’s and earned a master’s degree from Columbia University School of Journalism.

His other Kodak moment: was playing soccer for a small village in the south of France where the wine was better than the team.

Stanley’s column will be called ‘On Target‘ and his first piece will appear on Monday. He will challenge an earlier editorial on Prost Amerika,  Sounders are Right not to Splash the Cash, where we defended the Front Office’s transfer market inactivity.

He told us he disagreed and we invited to him to tell us, and you, why.

We value our columnists’ right to feel free to take a different line from us, to encourage debate and discussion which we feel is vital to promote the sport.
