The buzz surrounding Uruguayan right midfielder Alvaro Fernandez appears to contain significant substance to report the Sounders’ interest in the player as news.
A video appeared on the normally reliable World Soccer Reader site, containing a video of the player citing Seattle as the likely destination of his next move.
The 24-year-old Uruguayan made four appearances as a substitute in the World Cup for Uruguay playing 19 minutes against hosts South Africa when he came on for Jorge Fucile. He played five minutes against Mexico replacing Luis Suarez, and a further six when replacing the same player against South Korea.
He made his one start in the infamous match against Ghana but was replaced at half time by Nicolas Lodeiro.
The six foot two midfielder currently plays for the University of Chile club in Chile, the country against whom he made the first of his eleven international appearances prior to South Africa.
