Prost Amerika Sounders FC Player of the Year to be Announced Today

What the Prost Amerika Player of the Year Trophy will Look Like

Football is about the players. Football is about the fans. It’s not really about the media, though it’s nice to be told otherwise once in a while. If you will pardon a little self indulgence on our part, this week we will be making some news as well as covering it.

This afternoon, we will be announcing our Prost Amerika Sounders FC Player of the Year. Like many of you, we’ve watched over 40 Sounders games this season, 21 in person and the remainder on the television. From the ultimate highs of the opening day win and the US Open Cup triumph, and including some lows, we were there, although we smartly avoided actually going to San Jose. More than watching, we’ve had the often pleasurable, sometimes unenviable task of writing match reports. If that doesn’t make you take a closer look, we compounded it by re-watching matches to do our Player Ratings. Therefore this site has analysed the performance of every player in every game this season.

Now whether getting the award from Prost Amerika Soccer is prestigious or not, is not for us to say. What we can tell you is that the Trophy itself is beautiful, a 15″ by 12″ Walnut finished and engraved wooden plaque, courtesy of North Star Fine Coffee, creators of KICK Coffeeâ„¢, the coffee created especially for soccer fans.

Prost Amerika Readers Award to be Democratically Chosen

However there will be two further awards from us this year. Throughout the season, we have allowed you our readers to choose the Man of the Match Award. In the same spirit of democracy in sports, Prost Amerika is proud to announce the beginning of the voting for the Prost Amerika Readers Sounders FC Player of the Year. The polls will open tomorrow, and we will present the winner with the trophy at an appropriate date after voting closes. The winner will get an equally superb trophy though.

Seattle – a Sporting City, a Soccer City

Seattle has always been a city where soccer has been in our hearts although that Pacific Northwest reticence to blow our own trumpets has kept it a secret from the rest of the nation, at least until this year. In that spirit, Prost Amerika is very proud to announce that it will become the first ever Seattle website to award a special prize to the MLS Player of the Year.

Like many of our readers, we were new to MLS pre-season, having focused on the USL where our local side played. Therefore, it has been a joy to watch such players as Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Juan Pablo Angel, Landon Donovan, Brad Davis, Stuart Holden, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Shalrie Jospeh and Zach Thornton display their talents. There comes a point in the season when you shake your opponent’s hand and congratulate him for doing the very thing you hoped he wouldn’t do, which is dash the hopes for your own team.

We will make this announcement shortly and work out details of the presentation with the player’s club. There’s always the chance they’ll be in Seattle anyway second last week in November. Who knows?
